Climate change brings about new economic, research and administrative tasks. The M.Sc. in the Climate Sciences Program is designed to train specialists in these areas. A few comments from potential employers on their career opportunities:
"Switzerland, with its sensitive mountainous ecological system, will be particularly affected by climate change. In the future, we will need more specialists with solid training in climate sciences in order to meet the economic and social challenges. The FOEN being a centre of competence for climate policy questions, is dependent on reputable climate experts." Dr. Bruno Oberle, Director of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN)
"WWF sees climate change as the greatest challenge of our times, yet there is a real lack of opportunities for graduate students to become well versed in the issues surrounding it. We thus welcome high profile studies in this field. There is currently a great need for scientists who can develop responses to climate change. Unfortunately this need will only grow while we wait for action to be taken to stop climate change, and there are not enough qualified people to do the work." Dr. Lara Hansen, Chief Climate Scientist, WWF International
"As a globally active reinsurance company, we have been dealing with the risks related to climate change for many years. It is essential for Swiss Re to incorporate relevant trends into our risk models as early as possible. That is why we employ a team of climate experts." Dr. Christian Mumenthaler, Chief Risk Officer, Member of the Executive Board, Swiss Re
